So Cal Road Trip: Fiat 500L Review from Ken Garff Fiat of Salt Lake! PLUS Free Oil Change for YOU!

Last week we took a family vacation to Southern California.  Since we had never been to many of the theme parks, we thought we would make a really fun road trip out of it and see many of the fun parks that So Cal has to offer.

Make sure to read through the full review – There is a special deal for you at the end of the post that you won’t want to miss!We started out our trip by picking up this 2015 FIAT 500L from Ken Garff Fiat in downtown Salt Lake City.  To be honest, when they told me that they would let us take this little car on our road trip, I was NERVOUS!  We are a little family of four, but I drive a mini-van, and I have ever since I had my first daughter and we were just a family of 3.  We have always taken our van on road trips and we’ve had all the space we wanted and more.

I was nervous that this little Fiat would be WAY too small for us and that it would drive us nuts.

When we pulled in to pick up the Fiat, I noticed a lot of little cars.  And I got even more nervous.  But they were WAY cute.  Just check out this little yellow one.  My daughter REALLY wanted to take home the little “bumble bee” and who can blame her.  I think it’s adorable too.

Well, I was PLEASANTLY surprised.  The Fiat 500L is super nice and surprising roomy.  We had plenty of space for the four of us and all of our stuff.  We did pack a little bit lighter than we normally do, but that was nice too.  We ended up with just what we needed and not a ton of extra junk that we wouldn’t use anyway.  We could have even fit more.

The car has a fun “European Style” with plenty of leg room and head room.  The model we drove had a full glass top that was WAY cool.  It felt so open and my kids loved seeing the moon and stars at night.  It also has wrap around windows, which made driving a breeze.  Even in CRAZY California traffic.  

Just a heads up.  The first thing I noticed was that it drives a little bit differently than I’m used to.  The “get up and go” in this car is awesome!  Once I got used to how it drives (it only took me 30 minutes or so) I LOVED it!  With a 6 speed automatic transmission, you don’t feel the car switch gears at all.  And when you want it to go, it GO’S!  I might have a bit of a lead foot and I had to be careful not to drive too fast because it just didn’t feel like I was driving it that fast.  It was so easy to drive and so comfortable.

I loved hooking up my phone via Bluetooth.  We were able to hook up both mine and my husband’s phones as well as our iPad (which the kids used to watch movies).  While I couldn’t see the movie it was super fun to listen over the car’s system.

Some of my favorite features included the satellite radio, backup camera, steering wheel audio and phone controls, automatic up and down power windows (no holding down the button), touch screen (which was so easy to use), dual-zone climate control (so that the person in the sun can have more air than the person sitting in the shade – hello brilliant), and TONS more!

I also loved that there isn’t a gas cap.  How nice is that?  I never had to worry about the cap.  Every car should be like this!

We put over 2,000 miles on this car and I really fell in love with it.  We took this car in the snow, rain, and sun.  It drove so well in all weather.  I was concerned when I saw that their was snow in the forecast for our drive through the canyons as we drove through Southern Utah.  Many cars slid off the road, but I felt totally comfortable the entire time, even though I was new to driving this car.

My girls loved the back seat and had tons of room for themselves and all their stuff.  We even took it to Costco after we got home for a huge shopping trip.  It was tough to return it for sure.
